Okay, I searched this tribe with a few different baits and couldn't find anything...

Feel free to 'shout out' the praises of your institution or old stomping grounds, whatever...

It'd be nice if there was a reliable list of Colleges that had thrown their hat in the ring as dedicated Biology seekers. Overall, you know?

Thanks in advance,
Benjamin

What geographic location are you considering?

I have to say that all of the schools I've attended have had great Biology programs, I think it's really important to have a good foundation in college if you plan to pursue graduate studies.

BSN-The College of New Jersey (formerly Trenton State College)
    MPH-San Francisco State University
    PhD-UCSF

All are great, but you can't come to UCSF because there are no undergraduate programs.

      MIT is the holy grail.

You know how sometimes people ask advice wanting to here a particular answer?
I suppose I was hoping to hear that the University of Denver has a wonderful, nationally recognized Biology Program.
I'm in San Antonio and plan on moving there later.
Still, I'm open to other alternatives.
I just want a place where people take Education and Biology in particular seriously.

I'd also be interested in any imput about University of Oregon (Eugene).
somweplace cold, cheap and kinda liberal would suit me fine.

Let's face it, most of us would not be accepted to what are universally accepted as the "best" institutes. The numbers are simply against it. The best place for a scientific education is very subjective. You have to take into consideration what specifically are your interests, who is at the cutting edge of that field, and what your geographic and financial limitations are. Also, there is perhaps the most important factor: one's personal level of ambition and dedication. You can be a superstar student/postdoc on your own, if you have the "stuff."

            Good luck!

If it's not too late, I was enrolled in a wonderful program at San Jose State for their MBT, or Master's in Biotechnology. It's a newly recognized degree, a 2-yr program. I had to drop out because I was also trying to work full time and it just got to be too much, but it was a great program.

    Ever consider going abroad? :D

kvl.dk/English.aspx has a lot to offer, but it's not exactly in your area ^^

"I'd also be interested in any imput about University of Oregon (Eugene). "

Great school for drosophila or C elegans-related research. In fact, that is where the zebrafish model was first discovered. The strengths are molecular genetics for sure. I had the opportunity to go there for a quarter as a visiting student. If you have any specific questions don't hesitiate.

        Flies and worms.
        wonderful.

        I'm interested in psychopharmacology.
I know it's a big goal, but it's worth aiming for, and so that is more what I'm looking at.

        Cognitive Science, PsychoPharm, PsychoBiology etc.

I realize I probably won't be getting into MIT or CalTech or etc but it'd be nice to know there were decent colleges out there studying and teaching the physiology of the human mind. If that's possible. The "best" colleges, for me, are going to be: not-the-best-but-one-step-lower if that makes any sense.

        Thanks for responding everybody!

By the way I was kidding about the worms and flies thing.
It's a wonder anything at all exists and the study of that wonder is always worthwhile.
